Real-Time Multiplayer is available for both Android and iOS Devices in version 2.6+. For detailed information on the new features, take a look at our update notes here.
Some new additions in version 2.6 include:
- Players can now be disqualified for poor behavior (see below)
- Improved matchmaking algorithms
- Post-race matchmaking - Empty grid slots post-race will now be filled by other players
- Players on the same IP Address (I.e. WiFi Access Point) will now be matchmade together
- Slipstreaming - Keep close behind your opponent to gain a speed boost to help overtake other racers
How many players can there be in a race?
As of version 2.6, up to 8 players can participate against each other.
Can Android and iOS players race against each other? Can I invite a friend from another platform to race with me?
Yes! In version 2.6+, Android and iOS players can race together. You will be able to invite anybody from your Real Racing 3 friends list (who are connected via Game Center, Facebook, Google Plus or Weibo) to join you online.
The number of points that you have added or removed to your rating points upon completing an event will depend on the difference of your rating to your opponents, as well as your placement.
If you beat other players that have a lower rating than you (are not as skilled as you), you will receive less points for beating them. Likewise, if you beat a player that is more highly skilled (has a higher rating than you) you will earn much more for that race.
Please note that disconnecting from a race that is finished after you disconnect will result in a DNF Loss - your Online Rating will be adjusted at the end of that race.
Real Racing 3 uses principles of the Elo rating system. Have a look at the information here if you would like to learn more.
You and your opponents are able to 'slipstream' to gain a speed boost. Simply keep close directly behind another car up ahead, and you'll be able to gain some extra speed to help with your overtaking maneuver.
Why does my Rating reset sometimes?
The Online Ratings of all players are reset on a weekly basis. This reset allows all players to enter into the new tournament on level ground and have the equal opportunity to compete for rewards.
Why do the results take so long to appear?
Upon completing a race, the game will wait for everyone to finish in order to accurately report the final results once all of the submitted times have been verified.
Sometimes this can take some time if a player was disconnected from other players mid-race due to connection issues, but completed the race on their device.
If a player disconnects completely, there may be a delay before their participation has been timed out. We are looking into improving this!
|How can players be disqualified in a race?|
Players can be disqualified for the following:
You will receive an on-screen warning 5 seconds before the disqualification is issued. Any players disqualified will have the icon on the left next to their name.
|Another car in the race acted strangely in my race, what happened?|
If one or more players (including yourself) are experiencing connection problems or higher latency with their internet connection, or if a notification on the device appears in the middle of the event, the game may not be able to accurately locate all players in the race consistently.
This behavior can manifest in a number of ways, such as cars appearing to "fly" or "teleport" around the track.
If a player is experiencing connection issues, they will have a Red Icon next to their name (displayed left) and their car will become a "ghost", to prevent them from colliding with other vehicles and ruin everybody's race.
