Frequently asked questions
Can I use Sims' Orbs without having the Sims pass away?
You can, but these Orbs will need to be used for building community lots. All Sims must be Seniors who have fulfilled their Life Dreams in order to use them to construct community lots (by tapping 'Build' on Mystery Island). To give an Orb to another Sim your Sim will need to pass away to the afterlife once they have fulfilled their Dreams.
What is the difference between Silver and Platinum Life Orbs?
If you're having trouble meeting the Life Orb requirements for a construction area, you might be using trying to use Silver Orbs instead of Platinum Orbs to construct the area. Platinum Orbs have a blue tint, Silver Orbs are only silver in colour. To get a Platinum Orb you need to upgrade your Silver Orb to a Gold one, then Platinum.
My Sim was ready to age before I could max out their Life Dream phase! What do I do now?
Don't worry! When a Sim ages up, you still have the chance to continue progressing from where they left off before their Birthday, but you'll also have the next phase cap (maximum progress available for that age) unlocked for the Sim to progress.
For example, if your Preteen Sim ages up before they're able to max out their Life Dream progress for that age, your now Teen Sim will have the Teen phase of the Life Dream unlocked to work on in addition to the remainder of the Preteen phase that wasn't accomplished previously.
Note: the following information is only relevant if you have completed Life Dreams and Legacies.
Life Orbs are small glowing objects which you unlock by completing the Life Dreams and Legacies quest. You can place them in your inventory, leave them floating on the ground, move them around like you would with furniture, assign them to a Sim to achieve various effects or use them to build community lots. There are four types of Life Orb - Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum which each has increasing benefits.
Why should I collect Life Orbs?
As of February 2017 you can reverse the aging of a Sim back to the start of their age group for FREE. Life Orbs can still be collected to provide other benefits such as giving your Sims personalities, increasing XP earned for actions allowing you to level up quickly, build some cool new community lots on Mystery Island and unlock new hobbies, and pause aging without having to be prompted to reverse the Sim's age back to the start of that life stage.
Over a Sim's life, you will have opportunities to perform tasks that relate to that Sim's personality and Orb type. At the beginning of each new Sim's stage of life, you are given a Bronze Orb which you can select a Life Dream to work towards. You then perform tasks to work towards that Life Dream. Each stage of Life is marked as a section or phase of progress on that particular Orb - for example, Toddlers have the smallest section of the progress bar.
Your Sim must fulfil all their Life Dreams in each phase of life in order to drop the Bronze Orb when they pass away and pass it onto another Sim. You can place this Orb in the inventory to use later, or assign it to another Sim to have them work on upgrading the Orb to a Silver one by fulfilling their Life Dreams. It takes 4 Sims working towards Life Dreams and passing away to obtain a Platinum Orb.
Earning and assigning Life Orbs to other Sims
At each new age in your Sims's life, you will be given a new Life Dream to fulfil. Sims must have a personality assigned to them in order to have Life Dreams. Life Dreams are tasks which your Sim must perform with a specific object (such as a bookshelf or TV) to progress in the Life Dreams bar.
You can assign a Life Orb to a baby in the Create a Sim menu accessed via the Crib. Select the personality you would like the Sim to have. If you have any Life Orbs available in your inventory you can assign them at here - otherwise, your new Sim will receive a bronze Orb.
TIP: Once your Sim has fulfilled their Life Dreams for each stage of life you are able to advance their age for free. This can speed up the process of aging and passing on Sims to upgrade Life Orbs.
Build Community lots with Life Orbs
Life Orbs can be used to build and upgrade Community Lots on the Mystery Island. Each community lot unlocks various hobbies such as Arcade Gamer, Seashell Collecting or Dog Obedience. Life Orbs used to build these areas will be consumed - you can't use them again for your Sims once you have confirmed the building of each area!

Life Dreams and Personalities
To view your Sim's personality tap on the 'Life Dreams' tab in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
To change or create a Sim's personality access the Create a Sim menu by selection a wardrobe and tapping 'Browse Clothes'. You can select a personality type for your Life Orbs here, allowing your Sim to work towards their Life Dreams and upgrade Orbs. Changing a Sim's personality will reset any progress that Sim has made in their Life Dream.
There are four types of personalities. Each personality has Life Dreams that you can perform on objects which are relevant to that dream. At each stage of life, you have the opportunity to pick one of three Life Dreams or tasks which your Sim will continuously perform until they complete that Life Dream for their age.
- Sporty - e.g. I want to go to work at the stadium every day (6 hours, requires a job at the stadium).
- Geeky - e.g. I want to become a vampire expert by watching Ms. Vampire Slayer over and over (6 hours 30 minutes, requires a TV)
- Entertainer - e.g. I want to lead the greatest band in the world by singing as much as possible on a microphone (3 hours 10 minutes and a microphone from the teen section of the home store)
- Animal Fanatic - e.g. I want to always be playing with cats (Requires a cat and performing playful actions with cats)
Life Dreams will require you to have a specific object, animal, job or other requirement based on the personality type to complete the task.
