Frequently Asked Questions
I don't want to build my home from scratch. What can I do?
Open the SimTown Map and tap on an empty house lot to purchase a house template. Most house templates come equipped with furniture and items! Some house lots are 'Premium' such as the beachside lots. These come with bigger house templates. Alternatively, build a standard size template on them for a bigger yard.
How do I switch between floors?
Tap the up (or down) arrow icon on the right-hand side of the screen.
Why can't I delete a room?
If there are dirty plates inside the room, clean them up first, or delete the room above it.
What happens to my furniture when I delete a room?
Everything except for wallpaper and flooring will go straight to your inventory.
Build, change and delete rooms
To create and edit rooms you need to be inside the build mode - tap on the chair and lamp icon to open the home store and search for the 'Rooms' section. Tap and drag to create a room or edit the size of a wall. Walls that can be edited will glow white. Next, tap the green tick symbol when you're done.
Tap on the center of an empty floor and select the red Simoleon symbol to delete (or sell) the room. Changed your mind? Tap the blue tick to leave things how they are.
Note: The 'Walls' tab of the home store is for wallpaper, not adjusting walls.
To begin forming a house, keep building rooms! Connect them by tapping and dragging until they join with the existing walls. Rooms can be made separately, just find an empty space of grass. Remember, when joining separate rooms to existing ones, the walls of the original room will still be there - adjust the original shape of the room first.
Rooms have to be the same size in order to change their shape. The back wall of this
room can't be adjusted because it is part of another room!
Add a second floor or story
Complete the Multi-story Renovations quest, then tap on the 'Floor Construction' tab (this might be inside the 'House' tab if you're on a bigger device). Tap the large white outline to see the price of the new floor and tap the tick to confirm your choice. Build a room so you can place a staircase. To cycle between floors, tap the upwards or downwards arrow on the right.
Create balconies and patios
Complete the DIY Homes: Lovey-Dovey Balcony quest and make sure you've got an additional floor ready. Open 'Balconies' and tap and drag from the edge of the house to create a balcony - you can make it up to 3 spaces long from the edge of the house. You can add railings, posts, and paving, but the posts aren't needed to support the balcony!
Adding a Patio works in a similar way, just tap the 'Patios' tab then tap and drag to create a patio. You can customise it with railings, paving and a gateway.
Note: You can build a Balcony here anywhere in between the yellow lines. Green indicates you can build in this area! This is the same when building a Patio.
Build a basement
Complete DIY Homes: Basement of Kings and tap the 'Basements' tab just right of 'Floor Constructions'. Your basement can be any size within the house lot! The white dotted lines indicate where rooms are above.
Editing a basement
Blue lines indicate the outline of a pool. Include a staircase - but look out, the red squares indicate that there are items on the ground floor, so you can't put the staircase there. If you can't find anywhere to put your staircase, move items around upstairs or build another room in the basement that leads to the outside of the house (yes, your staircase can exit into the garden!), or place an elevator instead.
